President Trump, Congressional leaders react to release of redacted Mueller report

Washington-DC

WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report is out and reaction is split over his findings.

For nearly two years, there’s been constant speculation about what would be in the report.

Several Democrats say the investigation remains far from over as President Trump celebrated the report’s release.

In it, investigators determined Russia did interfere in the 2016 election, but without help of the Trump campaign.

“This should never happen to another president again.  This hoax,” the president said of the investigation.

Attorney General William Barr released the report late Thursday morning.

“The evidence developed by the special counsel is not sufficient to establish that the president committed an obstruction of justice offense,” Barr said.

The Democratic Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee Jerry Nadler said he doesn’t believe Barr.

“Barr’s words and actions have been disingenuous and misleading,” Nadler said.

In a statement, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi wrote, “We believe the only way to begin restoring public trust in the handling of the special counsel’s investigation is for Special Counsel Mueller himself to provide public testimony.”

Large sections of the 448 page report were redacted for legal, privacy and national security reasons.

Barr said Pelosi, Nalder and other congressional leaders will get to see a more complete version of the report under tight security.

“Together with my upcoming testimony before the Senate and House Judiciary Committees, will satisfy any need Congress has for information,” Barr said.

Robert Mueller is also likely to testify before Congress within the next few weeks, but it’s not clear if he would testify in the House or Senate first.

Lawmakers say they want to go through the report first before moving forward.
