Opelousas man arrested again for failing to comply with La. sex offender laws


OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY)– SLPSO arrest Opelousas man for failing to comply with sex offender laws.

Authorities with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office tell KLFY that Jasper James Charles was arrested for continuing to fail to comply with the State of Louisiana sex offender’s laws.

Charles began his initial registration as a tier 1 sex offender in St. Landry Parish residing in Opelousas, Louisiana.

According to deputies, on May 14, 2016 Charles was arrested and booked on the charges of, “failure to register as a sex offender and not obtaining his sex offender identification.” He later bonded out and officials say he stated he would comply with the laws.

According to police sex offenders must report their change of address and pay fees for community notification, the watch system, and newspaper flyers.

According to deputies, on May 18, 2016 the sheriff’s office conducted a compliance check and reminded Charles of the 72 hour post-incarceration update which is required by law. Officials say Charles failed to obtain the proper identification and pay the mandatory fees.

Jasper James Charles was arrested on May 18, 2016, and was behind bars being held without bail.
