Shortly before 8:10 a.m. on Friday, State Police was dispatched to a single vehicle crash on Chitimacha Trail near Charenton.  The crash claimed the life of a New Iberia resident and left a Franklin man in jail.

The initial investigation revealed that a car failed to turn at the curve, causing it to run off the right side of the roadway, enter a ditch and strike a culvert.  After striking the culvert, the car overturned several times ejecting a passenger, Brylan Domingue (20) of New Iberia.  Domingue was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene. Matthew Trosclair (28) of Franklin was driving the car.

Three other occupants in the vehicle fled the scene after the crash.  Later the Sheriff’s office found two of the three occupants hiding in a field.  One of the occupants is still being sought.

Impairment is considered to be a factor in this crash.  Toxicology samples were taken from Trosclair and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

Trosclair was arrested and booked at the St. Mary Parish Jail on the following: Vehicular Homicide, two (2) counts Vehicular Negligent Injuring, Hit and Run, Careless Operation and Failure to Report an Accident.
