A Baton Rouge woman was arrested Saturday for 4th offense DWI and various other charges, according to State Police.
37-year-old Safaria A. Joseph was arrested after a motorist observed her driving recklessly on Bluebonnet Blvd in Baton Rouge and notified law enforcement.
It happened shortly before 10:00 a.m.
Troopers arrived and located the driver in a parking lot on US Hwy 61 at Coursey Blvd.
Police say she performed poorly on a standardized field sobriety test and was placed under arrest for DWI.
While en route to State Police Troop A, police say she was verbally combative and kicked items in the rear seat as well as the rear window of the State Police unit.
Once at Troop A, police say, she became physically combative to Troopers, even punching the Intoxylizer machine.
She eventually submitted to a breath test, with the results showing .246g%, police said.
While in transport to the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison, police say, she again became combative in the rear of the unit and banged her head against the interior of the car, causing personal injury.
Also, she attempted to kick out a window, and even destroyed official paperwork and a Troopers jacket, according to police.
Once at the prison, police say, she was treated for her self-inflicted injuries and then booked for 4th Offense DWI, Reckless Operation, Resisting an Officer, Battery on a Police Officer (3 Counts), Operating a Vehicle while under Suspension for certain Prior Offenses, Simple Criminal Damage to Property (2 Counts), and Self-Mutilation by a Prisoner.
