NEW ORLEANS (AP) – A 16-year-old boy has been charged with trying to fatally beat a counselor in the juvenile jail.
The Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office says the teenager was indicted Thursday on a charge of attempted first-degree murder in the Sept. 2 attack on a male counselor, who was left with a head wound that required several staples to close.
Prosecutors say he locked himself inside an office and barricaded the door. When staff tried to get in, the teen spit on them, doused them with urine and attacked the counselor, using the arm of a chair.
NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune reports the teen was already being held on attempted first-degree murder and armed robbery charges. An Oct. 31 hearing will determine whether he should be transferred to the adult jail to await trial.
