LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY)- Lafayette Parish School System Chief Administrative Officer Joe Craig has confirmed that a Carencro High student died Wednesday afternoon.
The cause of death is suicide.
Lafayette Police investigated an incident in the parking lot of the Ambassador Caffery Shopping Center just after 2 p.m.
No further information about the victim has been provided at this time.
On behalf of the school system, Craig made the following statement:
The school and the school system have been made aware of a tragedy that occurred today in Lafayette with one of our Carencro High students. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family.”
Counselors and social workers will be placed at Carencro High School Thursday, Craig said.
LPSS plans to provide additional support resources to students, parents and teachers “who had association and friendships with this student,” school official added.
