Popular toy manufacturing brand Lego will open its first Louisiana retail location in Metairie this fall.

The LEGO Brand Retail Store will be one of the latest additions to Lakeside Shopping Center. The iconic plastic toy bricks will fill a new space that’s more than 2,000 square feet at the mall.  Shoppers will find the new store located across from the Disney Store and next to Sephora.

“We are committed to enhancing our customers’ shopping experience at Lakeside Shopping Center, and LEGO is a perfect fit for our Center and most importantly for our community. We are thrilled about this partnership,” Tricia Thriffiley Phillpott, Lakeside’s leasing manager and general manager, said in a news release.

The LEGO Group opened their first retail outlet in 2002 in Cologne, Germany. Today, LEGO operates more than 130 LEGO Brand Retail Stores worldwide.

This LEGO announcement coincides with Lakeside Shopping Center’s $10 million-dollar renovation that has reached the halfway mark to completion. The renovations include raising sections of the ceiling, installing additional skylights for a more open feel, all new LED cove lighting, Carrera marble column treatments and an extensive new soft seating package.

Lakeside says the new renovation is part of a transformation to make customers “feel like they are part of an experience-driven destination with interactive spaces that invite them to shop, dine and play,” according to the release.

In the past year, Lakeside Shopping Center has opened eight new stores including Kendra Scott, J. Jill, Z Gallerie, Journeys, Bra Genie, Sprint, Free People and Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse and Wine Bar. The Kids’ Castle, a state-of-the-art play area for children, opened this past April and features private rooms for nursing mothers as well as hand-sanitizing stations for patrons.

Zara and Pokeworks are currently under construction with plans to open in Fall 2018.

In the coming weeks, Lakeside says it plans to release the names of additional new stores slated to open by the end of this year.
