CONWAY, S.C. – Louisiana had two different opportunities to seal a victory in extra innings over second-seeded Georgia Southern, but both chances came up short as the Eagles plated two runs in the bottom of the 13th inning to earn a walk-off, 6-5 victory over the Ragin’ Cajuns on Wednesday afternoon.

The 13-inning affair was the second-longest game that Louisiana (28-30, 15-15) has played in this year and the sixth time it has played in extra innings overall. The Ragin’ Cajuns are 3-3 in those contests.

Senior Daniel Lahare paced a group of four who produced two hits on the afternoon and finished his day with two runs scored. Brennan Breaux knocked in a run with a single up the middle in extra innings, while Handsome Monica hit his 15thhome run of the season to left field in the 13th frame.

On the hill, Jacob Schultz (2-3) took the loss after giving up a hit and what proved to be the winning unearned run. Starter Grant Cox put together a masterful performance, tossing a career-best 7.2 innings and allowing just three runs on three hits. His efforts were big in the middle part of the contest as well when he retired 14-straight batters between the third and eighth innings.

After falling behind 2-0 after three, sophomores O’Neal Lochridge and Hayden Cantrelle stepped up big and delivered two RBI singles to knot the game up. The Eagle regained the lead in the eighth on an infield single, but the Ragin’ Cajuns were up to the task in the ninth when Kole McKinnon laid down a perfect bunt to allow Lahare to slide in safely at home and force extra innings.

Lahare came across the plate to score for the second time in the 11th when Breaux shot a single up the middle to go up 4-3, but the run was answered by the Eagles in the bottom of the frame via a sacrifice fly.

Louisiana looked primed for victory in the 13th inning when Monica sent a ball sailing over the left-field wall to retake the lead at 5-4. However, Georgia Southern found two runs in the bottom of the same frame, scoring on a wild pitch and a throwing error to steal the game, 6-5.
