Two suspects, including teen, charged with attemped murder in Ville Platte

VILLE PLATTE, La. (KLFY)- Two suspects, including a 16-year-old, have been charged after shots were fired into a vehicle at an intersection on Monday, police said.

Passengers in the vehicle included a woman and a 1-year-old child, Ville Platte Police Chief Neal Lartigue said.

Upon arrival at the intersection of Edward Knotoe Thomas Street and South Soileau Street, officers learned that two suspects fired multiple times striking the vehicle.

No one was injured during the exchange of gunfire, authorities said.

On Tuesday, detectives and officers located the teen suspect after a short foot pursuit from Young Street to South Soileau. They said the suspect had a handgun in his front pocket.

The teen has been charged with three counts of attempted first degree murder, one count of possession of a firearm by a juvenile and one count of resisting an officer.  He remains in the custody at this time. 

On Thursday, Dequandray Thomas, 20, of Ville Platte, was arrested and charged with one count of attempted second degree murder.  

Thomas was transferred to the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office Jail and remains jailed on a $100,000 bond.
