PALMETTO, La. (KLFY) – Deputies have arrested a man in connection with a death of a Livonia woman whose body was found in a canal last week.

Sheriff Bobby Guidroz said in a news release that the victim’s husband, Sam Clark, Jr., “confessed to investigators that he shot his wife on the spillway levee bridge where he dumped her body.”

Clark and the victim, Kimberly Perkins Clark, 28, of Livonia, had a long abusive relationship, according to the sheriff.

Clark has been charged with second-degree murder and transported to the St. Landry Parish jail for booking.

No bond has been set on Clark.

Guidroz said the St. Landry Parish Coroner’s Office determined that Kimberly Perkins Clark died as a result of two gunshots to her head.

Her body was found around 5:40 p.m. on March 21, 2016.
