One person dead after massive plant explosion near Houston

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KHOU) — One person has died and at least two others were injured in an explosion at a Crosby plant. 

It happened at KMCO plant on Ramsey Road, according to the Crosby Volunteer Fire Department.

A shelter in place has been issued for residents within a one mile radius of the plant. 

A shelter-in-place has also been issued for all campuses in Crosby ISD and Sheldon ISD.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said a few “pops” have been heard coming from the plant. 

The explosion could be felt as far away as Houston and Kingwood.

A large cloud of black smoke can also be seen for miles.

Sheriff Gonzalez said the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office will take the lead on the fire.

Harris County Sheriff’s Office will send more resources, along with Harris County Pollution Control.
