WEATHER BLOG: Hot temperatures continue, rain chances increasing late this week

Local

It’s been another hot day across the area with readings in the lower 90s this afternoon. Factoring in humidity, feels like temperatures were once again the 93-98 degree range.

Some changes coming to the forecast heading through the week ahead. Firstly, the ridge of high pressure that’s been baking the southeastern U.S. will begin to breakdown and move eastward. This will give the area more troughing (ascending air) and also bring more moisture into the atmosphere. A weak front will try to nose into the area by Thursday and Friday. All of these factors will lead to an uptick in rain chances Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Daily storm chances will be in the 40% territory during those days. With a summer-like pattern in place, some of these storms will contain frequent lightning, gusty winds, and heavy rainfall.

A ridge of high pressure will then rebuild across the area by the weekend and early parts of next week, leading to high temperatures in the middle 90s by Sunday and next Monday.
