UPDATE: Victim identified in Jeanerette parade shooting

UPDATE:  Police have identified the victim in Sunday’s shooting along the Jeanerette Parade route as 22 year old Dante Archangel of Jeanerette.

The shooting suspect remain at large, police said.  

ORIGINAL: One person is dead and another injured following a shooting Sunday along the Jeanerette Mardi Gras parade route.

Police say the shooting happened at the intersection of Martin Luther King Drive and Monnot Road around 4 p.m. 

On arrival, police say one of the victims was found with a gunshot wound to the chest.

He was air lifted to a Lafayette hospital by Acadian Ambulance Service but died from his wounds, police said.  

The second victim, a male, was also transported to a hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg.

As of 6 p.m. detectives were still at the interviewing witnesses. 

Police are asking anyone with information to call the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office at 369-3711 or Iberia Crime Stoppers at 364-TIPS (8477).
