UPDATE: Rayne Police arrest suspect in recent vehicle burglaries

UPDATE: (Rayne, La.)- On March 27, 2019, the Rayne Police Department obtained an arrest warrant for Daniel Deshawn White, 22, of Houston for two counts of simple burglary. A $250,000 bond was placed on White, by Judge David Smith.

Rayne Chief of Police Carroll J. Stelly advised detectives with the Rayne Police Department, Crowley Police Department, Duson PD, Calcasieu Sheriff’s Department and Lafayette PD worked together to identify the suspect in the recent vehicle burglary spree that plagued businesses along I-10 from Sulphur to Baton Rouge.

The Crowley Police Department is expected to obtain arrest warrants along with Lafayette PD and Calcasieu Sheriff’s Department, which has 39 vehicle burglaries attributed to this offender and his currently unknown co-conspirators. Detectives from the Rayne Police Department and Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Department are currently in Houston completing their investigation.

Daniel is expected to be transported back to Acadiana tomorrow by detectives.

ORIGINAL: New this morning, Rayne Police is searching for a vehicle burglary suspect. This is video that was posted to the Rayne Police Department’s Facebook page. In the video you can see the suspect punch, then remove the window from the driver’s side door. He then enters the vehicle through the window, grabs a bag and runs off.

Anyone with information on the identity of the suspect shown in the video, is asked to please call Rayne Police at 337-334-4215.

He is also believed to have been active in other cities along I-10 last night. Police say the white SUV shown in the video is believed to be involved in the vehicle burglaries. Again anyone with information on the owner or occupants is asked to call Rayne Police department at 337-334-4215.
