UPDATE: 81-year-old Joanne McDermott of Bayou Vista was arrested over the weekend and charged with felony hit and run.
According to police, McDermott was behind the wheel of a vehicle that struck an elderly woman, in St. Mary Parish, and failed to stop.
Berwick police say she posted a $1,500 bond and has been released.
The victim remains in the hospital.
ORIGINAL: The hit and run driver who left an elderly woman seriously injured in Berwick over the weekend has been arrested according to the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office.
The crash happened Saturday just after 7 p.m. on La Hwy 182 at Tournament Blvd.
Authorities say an elderly female was crossing the roadway when she was struck by a light colored Lincoln SUV which was traveling west on Hwy 182.
The suspect's vehicle left the scene headed toward Bayou Vista and did not stop to render aid, authorities said.
According to eyewitnesses who aided the victim until help arrived, the vehicle sustained damages to the front bumper area near the passenger side.
On Sunday, a deputy located the vehicle involved in the incident at a residence in Bayou Vista.
A subject was developed and was subsequently arrested by the Berwick Police Department.
Additional information will be released Monday, according to the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office.
