The 5-year-old boy who drowned Sunday in Bayou Teche has been identified.

Aurtorio Garcia “Aka Tito” was pulled from the bayou behind his home in Jeanerette.

It happened on the Chitimacha Trail.

A standout player on the Bayou Teche Pee-Wee Football team, his coach Jazz Coleman said in a Facebook post that Autorio was young, full of energy, and fearless.

“Please keep his parents, siblings, family, friends, classmates and teammates in your prayers.” the post stated.

St. Mary Parish Sheriff Blaise Smith said his detectives got the initial call of the death and that while they are awaiting the official results of the autopsy, it appeared that the child died of an accidental drowning.

Sheriff Smith said that his office extends its deepest sympathies to the family during this difficult time.
