St. Landry Parish churches rebuilding after fires; GoFundMe set up

Local

Former New Orleans Saints’ tight end, Benjamin Watson, is promoting fundraising efforts for the three St. Landry Parish churches that were burned down in St. Landry Parish.

St. Mary Baptist Church in Port Barre, Greater Union Baptist Church in Opelousas and Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Opelousas  were all burned in a 10-day span from March 26 to April 4.

Watson recently shared a social media post, showing that a GoFundMe account has been set up by the Seventh District Baptist Association.

The host of the GoFundMe, the Seventh District Baptist Association, is a 149 year old non-profit religious organization working with the Governor of Louisiana, local leaders, and elected officials, to assist the impacted churches and their pastors, to ensure 100% of all funds raised will be evenly distributed to the three churches affected.

The donations received are earmarked specifically for the Seventh District’s member churches – St. Mary Baptist Church, Greater Union Baptist Church and Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.

All of your generous donations will be disbursed equally among all three churches for not only rebuilding their sanctuaries, but for the purchase of all necessities lost in the fires, including pews, sound system, musical instruments, etc.

Seventh District and the Pastors and congregations of the St. Mary Baptist Church, Greater Union Baptist Church and Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church thank you and solicit your continual prayers and support as we will overcome this tragedy together because we are ONE BODY IN CHRIST!
