SMPSO: Man jumped from sixth floor of St. Mary Parish Courthouse

Local

FRANKLIN, La. (KLFY)- A man scheduled to appear in court this morning jumped from the sixth floor of the St. Mary Parish Courthouse.

The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office was at 9:46 a.m. about the incident. The man reportedly jumped out of the bathroom window. He landed on the awning in front of the building before jumping to the ground.

The man, identified as Willis Loveless, 34, was located a short time later in the vicinity of the courthouse, SMPSO Sheriff Blaise Smith said.

Hearing appeared to be involving child support, the sheriff said.

No arrests have been made at this time. The matter is still under investigation. The subject was not an inmate at the time of the incident; therefore, this is not being investigated as an escape, Smith said.

The extent of his injuries is unknown at this time. “He managed to get away from the courthouse, but he didn’t go far,” Smith said.

This is a developing story.
