Here are some of today’s headlines you should know before heading out the door:

  • Lafayette Police are investigating a vehicle accident after a truck drove into a house near Simcoe. No injuries were reported.
  • Five people were arrested for allegedly staging a crash in Evangeline Parish. The suspects allegedly staged a crash with a car and a rental vehicle near Ville Platte in December 2015.
  • With summer coming to an end and many of us still trying to book that last minute vacation— you should be aware of fake vacation rental scams. Scammers urge travelers to book their accommodations, make a full payment— only for the traveler to discover the entire reservation is fake.
  • After a special meeting was held in Baldwin, the Board of Alderman upheld the mayor recommendation to terminate the town clerk on grounds of insubordination among other allegations. Crystal Willis was town clerk for five months.
  • A vital bridge to transport trash in St. Landry Parish received structural improvements recently. Over 300 tons of trash pass over the bridge every day.
  • The Cajun area agency on aging has fan donations for seniors thanks to a donation from Entergy. In Scott the Police Chief reminds residents of its Wellness Call Program checking where his department checks on seniors especially during the heat wave.
  • UL Career Services is helping students with their business attire by collecting gently used professional items. They’re kicking off a Career Closet donation drive today. People can drop off items at the Alumni Association House from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
  • Tonight’s Mega Millions jackpot is worth over $500 million, and is expected to rise. The drawing happens at 10 p.m. Good luck Acadiana!
  • The hot temps remain in place but the humidity levels have come down across Acadiana with no Heat Advisory in place today. Skies will be partly cloudy with a high in the mid 90s. The heat index will be around 100-107°.
