Lafayette Mayor-President Joel Robideaux faced a tough crowd.  On Tuesday, the mayor-president was a guest speaker at J. Wallace James Elementary School.

Robideaux proclaimed May 8 Teacher Appreciation Day. “Until you walk in a teacher’s shoes; you do not know what it’s like,” says J. Wallace James Elementary School Principal Dana Schmersahl .

“When you come in and start to address them they’re able to ask good questions and comprehend a lot about government and how it all works,” says Robideaux.

Robideaux spoke about government,  its various departments and the positions. “They’re like a sponge. The really do know about civics,” adds the mayor-president.

The school principal says having people come into the school as guest speakers makes a difference. “This shows our children that anybody and everybody can be somebody important,” explains Schmersahl.
