The Lafayette High School Marching Band is getting national recognition this week. They will be marching in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The band left Monday afternoon to begin the trip to New York City.

The Mighty Lion Marching Band is one of only 12 bands chosen from all over the country to march in this year’s parade and band members say they’re ready to show New York, and the whole country, what they’ve got.

Assistant band director, James Cork, says the whole experience is a dream come true, “To be able to do this parade and be involved, and to represent our state and our school at such a high level and a nationally recognized parade… We’re really just excited about it. And it’s just amazing for these students to get this opportunity.”

The LHS band was chosen last year to march in the 2018 parade by the Macy’s Band Selection Committee. Band directors submit an application along with a DVD of a field marching performance to be considered.

The 92nd annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade airs at 8 a.m. our time on Thanksgiving Day. You can watch it right here on KLFY News 10.
