Lafayette city officials considering options to regulate rental scooters

Lafayette city officials are considering on whether or not to adopt a local law or wait for state lawmakers to pass a bill that would regulate the use of pay-by-the-minute rental scooters.

According to our partners at The Daily Advertiser, mayor-president Robideaux and city attorneys spoke with state officials during last night’s council meeting and they learned that a proposal is expected to be introduced to state legislature during the upcoming regular session.

Councilman Bruce Conque said he was prepared to offer a local ordinance to regulate the scooters, but Robideaux said the city is looking at what other local governments are doing about them before moving forward with a decision.
