NEW IBERIA, La. (KLFY) – Officials with the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office confirm they’ve arrested 2 people in connection with a triple shooting in New Iberia on Monday.

The shooting took place at around 5:45  in the 300 block of North Street.

All 3 victims have non-life threatening injuries

Some residents who did not want to get identified are calling it a shootout, others are just hoping that the crime in the city will end.

“Violence in New Iberia need to stop. We all love our kids!,” exclaimed Tashanna Decuir, who lives in the Cedar Hill Housing Authority, where the shooting took place.

It’s a plea that we’ve heard too often in New Iberia.

“Kids are losing their fathers, mothers are losing their sons. It’s just ridiculous. We never had that here in a long time, now it’s not even fighting anymore, it’s gunplay and it needs to stop,: said Decuir.

“3 people became victims of gunshot wounds. who were transported by different means to local hospitals,” said Sgt. Stephen Guidry with the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Decuir lost her brother two years ago to gun violence. She knows that it can happen anywhere.

“They don’t matter where they bringing it at, they don’t care who around, they’re just trying to solve their beef, and they’re not even worried about the kids around,” Decuir said.

She had a message to those who could be committing the crimes in the city.

“Grab a bible, go to God, pray. Losing y’all’s  life behind a street name, or a gang, or a friend, it’s not worth it,” said Decuir.

Detectives with the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office have arrested two suspects after last night’s shooting.

Curleyreus Abraham has been charged with two counts of attempted second degree murder, illegal use of weapon and possession of a firearm in a firearm free zone.

Phillip Olivier has been charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
