Geri Ann Glasco remembered at vigil at Cajun softball field

Friends loved ones, and UL softball fans gathered tonight to remember Geri Ann Glasco.

The UL volunteer softball coach was one of two people killed in a five-vehicle crash on I-10 early Thursday morning.

The other victim was a man from Texas.

A vigil was held at Lamson Park where the Lady Cajuns softball team plays.

Balloons and pictures of Glasco lined the fence there.

“It’s just one of those situations where, she was taken away from us too early, but we’re here to honor her and her family, and the softball program tonight., says Dr. Bryan Maggard, UL athletic director.

Glasco was a volunteer coach, under her father, head coach Gerry Glasco.

“This is what Cajun softball is all about. It’s about not what year you played, or like if you played, but once you a part of this program, which Geri Ann was like we’re here,” said former UL softball player Jael Dugas.

The coaching staff, team UL softball fans and all of UL athletics, know how much of loss this is for their community.

“She was loved and as you can tell by what happened tonight here, the girls are still very emotional here about the loss. but there’s been a lot of things over the years these girls have gone through, so they’re very resilient ladies,” said UL softball associate head coach Micheal Roberts.

But coming together in prayer, and being there for one another —  is what these people say Cajun Nation is all about.

“I can’t tell you how many people called and said I wanna come but I can’t come and you know lemme know if there’s anything I can do and that’s just the testimony of the Ragin’ Cajuns,” says former softball player Blaise Talbot.

Maggard says they also plan on honoring Geri Ann, during the upcoming softball season.

UL softball coach Gerry Glasco tweeted about the support his family received saying in part, “I send my deepest appreciation and love for your support of our family as we remember and begin to learn to celebrate the gift of Geri Ann.”
