Friends, family of local boxer shot to death call for an end to gun violence

Family speaks out

Brandon Broussard. 29. of Lafayette is being remembered by friends and family after his shooting death Saturday night.

Broussard was a local boxer and member of Backstreet Boxing Club Gym in Carencro. One of his coaches tells News 10 Broussard was looked up to by the younger gym members.

“He was our leader [for] the kids. He’d try to help and motivate the kids as much as he could,” explained Damon Arceneaux.

Arceneaux adds that Broussard’s death will be felt throughout the gym for a long time, and family members agree.

Through the mourning they’re experiencing, Broussard’s uncle, Christopher Bernard, took time to stress the importance of bringing an end to gun violence.

He says he’s tired of people not taking the issue seriously because shootings affect more than just the shooter and the victim.

“Before you pull the trigger, know one thing.. There’s no coming back from you pulling that trigger. [Brandon] had a mother. He had uncles. He had brothers. He had sisters.”
