Four suspects arrested in an investigation into a Lafayette retail theft ring

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY)- Four suspects have arrested in an ongoing investigation into several retail thefts in the Lafayette area.

On November 20, 2018, Detectives with the Lafayette Police Department Criminal Investigations Division arrested all four suspects who have been linked to the recent thefts of items valued at over $13,000.

“The group traveled to retail stores around the Lafayette area conducting ‘grab and dash’ thefts,” the Lafayette Police Department said.  “After the thefts, the suspects would post their stolen items online or on their social media accounts for sale.”

During a recent incident, one of the suspects produced pepper spray to use against store employee who tried to prevent the theft, authorities said.

Lafayette Police will make every effort to protect the safety of shoppers as well as retail employees. The department said it will “continue to identify and arrest individuals committing these types of aggressive shopliftings.”

Arrested: 18-year old Precious Landry, of Breaux Bridge, 27-year-old Candace Batiste, of Lafayette, 17-year-old Marshell Ward, of Carencro, and 16-year-old man from Lafayette.
