Crowley PD investigating a suspicious death, possibly escaped inmate from Evangeline Parish

VILLE PLATTE, La. (KLFY)- Crowley Police Chief Jimmy Broussard said a man who escaped from the Ville Platte City jail, earlier this month, was found dead Tuesday inside a home in Crowley. 

Jahmal Rashad Byers, 34, died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds, Broussard said. 

Byers body was found inside his mother’s home, Broussard said.  

This is an ongoing investigation, Broussard said.

ORIGINAL: On October 15, 2018 at approximately 11 p.m. an Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office inmate being housed at the Ville Platte Police Department as a trustee, exited the Police Department through the lobby and failed to return.

Chief Neal Lartigue requests that anyone with any information regarding Jahmal Rashad Byers, 34, who’s last known address is 238 Roderick Street, Ville Platte, please contact the Ville Platte Police Department.

Lartigue said Byers was serving time on drug charges.
