Abbeville police say a victim has been taken to a hospital after being shot near the intersection of N. Bailey and Clover Streets.

It happened around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Police say a preliminary investigation has revealed that the victim was arguing with a man when several other men got involved.

A physical altercation started between the victim and the suspect before a handgun was pulled out and the victim was shot in the chest, police said.

The suspect, Alvin Wiltz (A.K.A. Gator) then fled the area on foot, police said.

He should be considered armed and dangerous, police said.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts should contact the Abbeville Police Department at 893-2511 or Lt. Jason Hebert at 523-1791.

Callers may also contact the “Tips” line at 892-6777. All callers may remain anonymous, police said.
