2 arrested in connection with Wednesday shooting in Opelousas after high speed chase

Two people are behind bars for their alleged involvement in a shooting on Wednesday morning in Opelousas that injured one victim after leading police on a chase through the city.

The shooting happened at the intersection of Grolee and Wallior Streets.

Opelousas Police say they attempted to stop a vehicle driven by Darrion Evans.

Johnique Adams was also in the vehicle.

The vehicle did not stop and led officers on a high-speed chase in southwest Opelousas, ending at the city limits.

During the chase, police say several packages of they determined to be different kinds of drugs were thrown from the vehicle they were pursuing.

Officers learned that Wednesday’s shooting was the result of an ongoing dispute between Evans and the victim.

Adams allegedly helped Evans in the aftermath of the shooting, police say.

During the arrest, police seized ecstasy pills, crack cocaine, crystal methamphetamine,  an AK-47 style assault rifle and $604 in cash.

Evans was charged with: 

  • Attempted 2nd-degree murder
  • Felon in possession of a firearm
  • Illegal use of a weapon or dangerous instrumentality
  • Obstruction of justice
  • Aggravated flight from an officer
  • Possession with intent to distribute Schedule I Narcotics (ecstasy)
  • Possession with intent to distribute Schedule II Narcotics 2cts. (crack & crystal meth)
  • Transactions involving proceeds from drug offenses.

 Adams was charged with obstruction of justice.

The victim was transported to the hospital on Wednesday and the investigation continues.
