As the Carolinas prepare for Florence, Acadiana power companies sit in standby mode willing to help the east coast if needed.
Lafayette Utilities System interim director Jeffery Stewart says the agency has been contacted as a mutual aide partner. Steward says LUS will help the east coast if need be.
“We are preparing several line crews to head to the east coast and be on standby outside the danger zone; but be ready to enter the area that’s needed,” says Stewart.
Stewart says requests for help often include the need for manpower and equipment. “We are going to stay until the job is done.”
SLEMCO communications director Mary Laurent says SLEMCO always has a restoration plan before hurricane season with the top priority being Louisiana customers.
“We need to make sure what’s going to happen here in the gulf in the next few days to make sure we’re not needed here to help our own people and customers,” says Laurent.
“That’s going to be the priority; but then after that anything we can do to help we certainly will do if we can,” Laurent adds.
