BROUSSARD, La. (KLFY)- Italian-based Helicopter company Leonardo nearly a month ago landed in Broussard, opening up a distribution center.
“We are functioning as a distribution center shipping parts out,” says Troy Penny GM of Leonardo.
The company has come to Broussard to be closer to customers, he said. It is costly to fix, repair and ship these rotor blades out.
“South Louisiana is arguably the largest helicopter community in the world,” Penny said
Penny also said because of the recent government shutdown, they are not in full operation mode. The Federal Aviation Administration shut down, so they are currently starting with 15 employees, but hope to double the staff within two years.
“We are looking to hire people with rotor blade repair experience, as well as technicians with Rotor blade repair experience. This is very specialized.” Penny said
