Jeanerette’s residents will head to the polls Saturday to elect a new mayor and alderman for Ward 4. The candidates running for mayor are Aquicline Arnold, Carol “Brother Carol” Bourgious Jr. and incumbent, April Foulcard.

Louis Lancon and incumbent, Kenneth Kern, are running for Alderman Ward 4.

Tonight, a candidate forum was held for those running for office. A local group made up of community members called Make a Difference Jeanerette organized the forum.

We got together and said this is a pivotal election, and we need to get out and try to make a difference. We do believe that that difference starts at the polls, said Lady Brown, with Make a Difference Jeanerette

Residents had the opportunity to ask candidates about hot topics like drainage, safety and the fiscal future of the city.

“We are hoping that citizens come together and understand that they also have a voice in public policy, Brown said. They can also influence some of the legislation in the area and that they can reach out to their leaders in the community and hope to make a difference.

An ordinance passed last year in the city, changing the mayor’s position to part time. Administrator said this switch is saving them money.
