AUSTIN, Texas (KXAN) — Imagine working without air conditioning in the summer heat.

That’s exactly what employees at a local Popeyes Chicken say has been happening. Tuesday, they went on strike.

Employees of the Popeyes Chicken at 2320 E. Riverside Drive say they’ve been working all summer without air conditioning. One worker told us many have complained for months, but nothing has happened.

“Now that fall is approaching we have this fear that once the temperatures start cooling down they think we’ll forget about it and it will happen all over again next summer,” Reuben Alvarado said.

Another employee, Jeymi Hernandez Madrid, said, “May 25 was the first time they came and tried to fix the A/C. Each time they’d come it would work for a couple days and then it would be hot again.”

We tried reaching out to the owner of the franchise, but have not heard back. A shift leader told us the owner has ordered a new unit that will be installed on Thursday.
