IBERVILLE PARISH (KLFY) – A 9-year old girl was killed Monday afternoon after she was ejected from a vehicle that overturned in a crash.

State Police Troop A responded to the crash just before 2:00 p.m. on June 27, 2016 on Highway 75 south of Highway 3066 in Iberville Parish.

Investigators say the crash occured as Tommie Killough, 27, of Livonia, was traveling southbound on LA 75 and attempted to pass a vehicle driven by Courtney Alvarez, 34, of Plaquemine, in a no passing zone.

At the same time Alvarez was making a left turn into a private driveway form Highway 75.

According to Public Information Officer Bryan Lee, The front left side of Alvarez’s vehicle was struck by the right rear side of Killough’s vehicle as she ran off the road.

Killough’s vehicle overturned, ejecting Cooper.

She was unrestrained at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Killough also had 6 more juveniles and 1 adult in the vehicle that were transported to area hospitals with moderate to severe injuries.

Alvarez and her passengers were properly restrained and not injured.

Upon release form the hospital, Killough will be charged with Negligent Homicide, passing in a no passing zone, driving under suspension and multiple child restraint and seat belt violations.

Impairment is not suspected to be a factor of the crash, but standard toxicology samples will be taken for analysis as this investigation continues.

State Police would like to remind motorists that all occupants of a vehicle must be restrained, regardless of seating position.
