BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The body of the missing boater was recovered by search and rescue crews on Saturday, according to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

Authorities said the body of 54-year-old Howard Brown of Baton Rouge was recovered at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 11 in the Mississippi River in Iberville Parish.

On June 8, Coast Guard officials said they were searching for Brown, who was last seen without a lifejacket on the river. They said Brown went missing on that Wednesday evening after his boat took on water near Baton Rouge.

LDWF said its agents were called about the missing man at around 5 p.m. Wednesday. The agency said law enforcement searched for Brown until dark that evening before putting a pause on the search until daylight Thursday morning.

LDWF said it will be the lead investigative agency for the boating incident and its investigators are unsure what caused the 16-foot boat to sink.
