WEATHER BLOG: Warm and muggy weekend, soggy pattern next week

A front will slip into the central parts of the state through tomorrow and stall. This will lead to warm temperatures across Acadiana and muggy conditions. Abundant cloud cover is also expected through the weekend. Lows tonight only falling into the 60s with persistent clouds and muggy conditions. Fog and/or mist could be possible through the overnight hours and tomorrow morning. Tomorrow afternoon will feature partly sunny skies and highs in the 70s. Isolated shower or two could be possible.

Upper-level energy will increase on Sunday with the front remaining stalled over the area. This will lead to a tricky temperature forecast, but also lead to a healthy chance of rainfall on Sunday. This same weather pattern will continue through next week with the front deviating about 50 miles or so each day. The front will never truly make it through Acadiana, so expect mostly warm temperatures through next week. As the front remains stalled, several upper-level impulses will move in and enhance lift across the area. The front will serve as the ignitor of widespread showers and storms Monday through Thursday.

Recent models have backed off on the rainfall projections across Acadiana, with most models showing a modest 1-3 inches through Thursday. Some of this rain would be beneficial for the area and the flood threat, for now, looks minimal. Greater concern for parts of northern Mississippi, Alabama, and Tennessee as models continue to show the possibility of 6-9 inches of rainfall in this region through Thursday.
