A car burst into flames inside a Medical Center parking lot Monday afterrnoon.

Eyewitnesses tell KLFY, the incident happened just after 2 p.m. in the medical center parking lot across from Lafayette General Hospital on Collidge near Heymann Boulevard. 

The Lafayette Fire Department responded to the scene.

Public Information Officer Alton Trahan said the owner of the vehicle escaped unharmed.

He said she reported that while driving the vehicle, she began to notice smoke in the dash board and then pulled into the parking lot, before the vehicle burst into flames.   

Three other parked vehicles were damaged as a result of the flames, Trahan said.

The cause remains under investigation, he said.
