MAURICE, La. (KLYF) — According to Vermilion Parish Sheriff Mike Couvillon, the body of Bobbie Jo Saltzman, who was reported missing on Tuesday has been located.

Saltzman had not been seen or heard from since approximately 3:41 a.m. Monday and was reportedly last seen driving a white Nissan Frontier crew cab in the Indian Bayou area early Monday morning. The vehicle was located crashed and unoccupied on Pressley Road in Maurice later Monday morning. 

Police discovered Saltzman’s body Tuesday but did not disclose a location.

Her body was sent to Louisiana Forensics for an autopsy to determine cause of death.

Saltzman’s boyfriend, identified as 34-year-old David James Smith, originally from New Iberia, was arrested and booked into the Vermilion Parish Correctional Center on the following charges:

  • Obstruction of justice
  • Contempt of court
  • Hit and run

Smith’s bond was set at $14,500.

News 10 spoke with the family of Saltzman who said they were distraught. Saltzman leaves behind two children, 23 and 25. The family has set up a GoFundMe to help with funeral expenses.

This is still an ongoing investigation.
