UPDATE: Suspect in robbery at Chase Bank in Opelousas tried to take over $10,000

UPDATE: On today at approximately 10:45 am officers with the Opelousas Police Department responded to a bank robbery at the Chase Bank located in the 200 block of N. Court Street which is located across the street from the Opelousas Police Department.

Officers saturated the area, and began viewing area video surveillance video. Detectives were able to trail the suspect to a nearby unoccupied building and located the suspect Walther Freeman at 11:19 am, hiding in a shed. Officers located 10,901.00 dollars in cash in the shed with the suspect. The suspect will be booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail on the following: simple robbery.

The quick apprehension of the suspect was credited to OPD officers arriving on scene and receiving assistance from local businesses in the area that  provided valuable information which led officers to the suspect. The Opelousas Police Department is at its best when working with the community to solve crime.

Chase Bank is currently closed at this time.

Unsure if it will reopen for the day.
