ORIGINAL: Louisiana State Police are investigating an officer involved shooting that happened on Ira Street in Jeanerette.
According to Jeanerette City Marshal Fernest Martin, a deputy from the Marshal’s office noticed a vehicle that may have been connected to a string of burglaries in multiple parishes spanning from Calcasieu and Livingston Parishes.
When the deputy tried to stop the vehicle, it refused and led officers on a chase that ended in the 800 block of Ira Street.
Martin says that the driver of the vehicle allegedly brandished a weapon and the deputy returned fire.
That individual was hit in the hand.
They were later captured after being located in a sugarcane field after the car chase.
The driver was taken to the hospital with non life threatening injuries, says Martin.
The passenger was also wanted in connection with the string of burglaries and was apprehended as well.
