UPDATE: Arrest made in Feb. 27 murder in Opelousas

UPDATE:  A suspect has been arrested the murder of 22-year-old man found dead on Jan.10 on Statemen Road. 

On February 27, 2019, investigators with the Opelousas Police Department’s Special Operations section were able to gather enough probable cause to secure an arrest warrant for Darrell Young, 31, of Opelousas, for the murder of John O’Neal Jason.

Young was already an inmate in the St. Landry Parish Jail for a previous arrest on January 27, 2019. Young was booked on the additional charges of second degree murder and felon in possession of firearm.

ORIGINAL: The Opelousas Police Department is investigating an early morning shooting that left one-person dead.

The victim has been identified as 22-year-old John O’Neal Jason.

According to Police Chief Martin McClendon, officers responded to the call of a shooting on Statesman Road near Rice Lane at around 2:45 a.m.

When they arrived on scene, they found Jason with a single gunshot wound to the head.

Detectives are questioning anyone that was in the area at the time of the shooting

Police do not have a suspect at this time. The incident remains under investigation.
