UPDATE: Arrest made in early morning officer involved shooting in New Iberia

UPDATE: As the investigation into the officer involved shooting continues, State Police say 30-year-old Corey Mata of Baldwin, 32-year-old Ross Mata of Katy, Texas and 34-year-old Anthony Mata, also from Katy, Texas have been arrested and booked into the Iberia Parish jail on charges of second degree battery.

This case remains ongoing, and further charges may be possible, Trooper Thomas Gossen said.  

ORIGINAL: Around 2 am Sunday, December 23, an officer with the New Iberia Police Department attempted to make an arrest near the 100 block of Main St.

Officials say the officer became involved in a struggle with several subjects. During the altercation, the officer discharged his service weapon, striking a subject.

The subject and officer were treated at the scene for injuries, then transported to a local hospital. Both have been released from the hospital, and at this time the subjects involved are in custody.

This is an active investigation, and we will update the story as more information becomes available.
