Two New Iberia residents arrested for child trafficking


A man and a woman from New Iberia have been arrested by Louisiana State Police Special Victims Unit (SVU) on charges of trafficking a juvenile for sexual purposes.

39-year-old Derrick Hall and 21-year-old Shaena Kelly were arrested for various charges as a result of an SVU investigation, police said. 

An investigation began in October 2018 when the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office notirfied police that a juvenile female had been trafficked in Iberia and Lafayette Parishes.

During the course of the investigation, police say, Investigators learned that the victim was physically forced to engage in sexual activity, and was also transported to Texas to engage in sexual activity.

Investigators were able to identify Hall and Kelly as the persons responsible for the trafficking, and arrest warrants were obtained for both through Iberia Parish.

Hall and Kelly were arrested in the Baton Rouge area last week, police said.   

Both were booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish jail as fugitives from Iberia Parish, and will be transported to Iberia Parish to be booked on the outstanding warrants.

Hall’s charges include trafficking of children for sexual purposes and felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile.

Kelly will be charged with trafficking of children for sexual purposes.

Police say thie investigation remains ongoing, and further charges may be pending.

The LSP Criminal Intelligence Unit – Breaux Bridge and the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office all assisted in the case, State Police said.
