Two children found in home when SWAT served narcotics warrant in New Iberia

The New Iberia Police Department charged two people after finding various narcotics, multiple guns and two children inside the residence while executing a narcotics search warrant in the 500 block of Darby Lane. 

It happened earlier this week.

During a search of the residence, police say, suspected crystal methamphetamine, suspected heroin, U.S. Currency, several firearms, ( one confirmed as stolen) a large amount of ammunition, a scale, and a ballistic vest was recovered inside the residence.

While executing the search warrant, police say one of the individuals in the residence was found attempting to flush narcotics.

Two small children were also located inside the residence, according to police. 

47-year-old Douglas Latak was arrested and charged with:

Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance
Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance
Obstruction of Justice
2 counts – Cruelty to Juveniles
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Unlawful Use of Body Armor
18 counts – Possession of a Firearm in the Presence of a Controlled Dangerous Substance
Illegal Possession of a Stolen Firearm
Transactions Involving Proceeds from Drug Offenses

36 year old Braidee O’Brien was charged with:

Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance
Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance
Obstruction of Justice
2 counts – Cruelty to Juveniles
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Unlawful Use of Body Armor
18 counts – Possession of a Firearm in the Presence of a Controlled Dangerous Substance
Illegal Possession of a Stolen Firearm

Police did not release any additional information on the two children found in the home.
