The latest on Buchanan Parking Garage

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY)- The Buchanan parking garage has been sitting abandoned for months because it’s deemed structurally unsafe.

The first big question is who will pay for the new garage?

“Money is the big question that was the problem before. The parish does not have the money,” said Marc Dubroc, director of Public Works for LCG.

Before they can address who and how this new facility should be built a proposal must be put in first.

“We are asking for the requests for proposal,” Danielle Breaux, director of Development and Planning for LCG, said. “The city is asking for 265 parking spaces.”

The meeting that was held here at the parking garage was designed to get the minds together to see how feasible it is to actually rebuild this parking garage.

“There are lots of opportunities since it has to be rebuilt,” said Warren Abadie, city parish transportation engineer for LCG.

So what’s the timetable on how long it will take to have a new garage built?

“Depends on what contractors offer will determine how long it will take,” Breaux said.
