Teen fatally shot while taking out the trash in St. Martinville

UPDATE: St. Martinville Police are searching for a suspect involved in a shooting that left a 17 year old boy dead.

Police responded to the call in the 400 block of North Vivier Street.

Earlier I spoke with the victims Aunt who said things turned tragic Sunday night in the blink of an eye.

She says her nephew was taking her trash cans from this basketball court to the street when she heard gun shots ring out.

I spoke to neighbors who also heard the guns shots. They originally thought it was fireworks until they saw the police cars.

Joshua Raymond was coming home from work minutes before shots rang out in St. Martinville last night.

“Went to the house and I was there for about 2 to 3 minutes and I started hearing pops. I thought it was old fireworks or something but I saw the cops pulling up so apparently it was gunshots and then said someone was down.”

The victim, a 17 year old male died from the gunshot wounds.

“He didn’t deserve it, he was a good sweet boy he wouldn’t harm you or nothing.”

The victim was at his aunts house. She tells me he was taking out the trash when the night turned tragic.

“Bring out the trash. That’s what they do every Sunday night around here.”

“She said it happened in seconds. One moment he was bringing out the trash, next thing you know he was lying on the ground eight shots in his chest.”

The investigation is ongoing  and St. Martinville police are asking the public for any information. they might have.

“Back here in this little area of the world we don’t get much of nothing. We very seldom the see patrol or even our councilman, we don’t see any of that.”

Now this is still an active investigation.

If you have any information, you are asked to call St. Martinville Police or St. Martin Parish Crimestoppers.
