Superintendent: 5-year-old student brought pellet gun St. Martin Parish school

CECILIA, La. (KLFY)- The unloaded pellet gun was found in the student’s booksack this morning at Cecilia Primary School.

District staff and law enforcement were called in to assist school administration to conduct an investigation, St. Martin Parish School Superintendent Lottie Beebe said.

Appropriate protocol was followed, she said.

In light of the most recent Florida school shooting, I am once again appealing to parents for their assistance. Please have conversations with your child or children regarding the serious consequences of bringing a weapon of any kind to school and check booksacks, etc. before students come to school,” Beebe said.

It is important to note this incident occurred at the start of the school day and school administration is to be commended for its prompt action, the superintendent said.

We take these incidents very seriously.  Today, a group of school officials met to discuss school safety concerns,” Beebe said. “Various solutions were discussed, but ultimately, the first line of defense begins with parents. Parents must be proactive and involved.”
