OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY) – State legislative auditors started an investigation at Opelousas City Hall on Thursday.

Roger Harris, the director of the investigative audit, confirmed that officials were going through files and speaking with employees but did not comment on the reason behind the investigation.

Harris said if auditors find relevant information they’ll file a report and release an audit report.

Recently, residents have accused Opelousas Mayor Reggie Tatum of using city funds to pay himself and employees for overtime logged during the August flood.

Tatum has denied any wrongdoing and said he was just following orders from the FEMA .
