St. Martinville City Council members say about $18,000 in fines from traffic tickets have not been accounted for. It was one of the many hot topics discussed at tonight’s meeting.
“There’s $18,000 missing and for two weeks and no one can tell us where its is,” said city councilman Craig Prosper.
The city council searched for answers Monday night. Shedrick Berard, the city’s chief administrative officer, says the last time his payroll clerk saw the money bag was two weeks ago.
It was in a drawer in her desk. That clerk has been on sick leave since.
“I looked where she said she put it and we couldn’t find it. That’s all the information I have,” said Berard.
In the end, the council decided to take a week to look for the money. If the council can’t find it, it will ask State Police to investigate.
“We can take a week. We can look into all of the offices because that’s an ample amount of money we need to find,” Mayor Melaine Mitchell said.
The council also discussed missing DARE funds. Berard says he will try to find the money as soon as possible, so DARE students can graduate before the end of the school year. Meanwhile, the council voted to get the more training for Berard.
