ST. MARTINVILLE, La. (KLFY)- Investigators with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office are seeking information from the public in reference to the homicide that took place on Saturday evening in St. Martinville.
Upon further investigation, it is believed that the victims who were driving in a four door black Honda Civic, were traveling from New Iberia to St. Martinville on Hwy. 31, while being followed by a second vehicle.
The victims vehicle was subsequently shot at several times in the 7300 block of Hwy. 31., by an unknown number of suspects in the second vehicle, and the victims vehicle came to rest on the opposite shoulder of the highway.
At approximately 8:15 p.m. a 911 call was received by a passing motorist who reported there were two subjects in a vehicle on the side of the road who appeared to have been shot.
Upon arrival, it was noted by responding officers that one victim, who was later identified as Demarcus Joseph Fontenette, 36, New Iberia, was dead at the scene. The second victim, Rusty Joseph Allen, 39, New Iberia, was transported to a local hospital with critical injuries, and currently remains in critical condition.
